How I Think about Teaching

Teaching in Taiwan can be enjoyable, as it has been for me during my time at Edinburgh School. It's gratifying to me to watch the kids' English improve year after year. Some of the children who have been at the school for eight of nine years have improved to the point where they really can converse with confidence. It's great to be around kids of that age. I also appreciate the lack of inhibition on their part. It makes my job so much easier. I don't enjoy teaching adults and teenagers so much because often they are just too afraid of making mistakes!

  在愛丁堡教英文讓我的生活很快樂,特別是當我看到小朋友的英文越來進步,有些小朋友在愛丁堡學英文學了才幾年,他們就可以非常有自信地用英文與外國老師溝通。我特別喜歡教小朋友英文,因為小朋友學英文可以很自然地把他們所學的勇敢地說出來,不像大人容易受到錯誤的束縛。

 
 



How I Think about Teaching

I have been teaching English here in Taiwan for over 9 years now. Over the years, I have become more aware of the children’s need for guidance and support to realize their fullest potential while learning English as a second language. I do this by creating and engaging them in fun educational games which they can apply what they have learned, such as words, sentence patterns, letters and phonics as well as, related Q and A about reading comprehension. These educational games help the children comprehend and retain the concepts of the English language. I have a passion for teaching and working with ESL students as I find if very rewarding to see them succeed in learning a second language.

  我在台灣的教學至今已9年了, 因此, 越能了解孩子的需求, 特別是在英文的學習方面, 引導他們學習和開發孩子的潛能。透過生動活潑的遊戲, 寶貝們學習並了解到字彙、句型、字母、發音、閱讀和延伸的問與答能力。我對教學充滿了熱情, 看著他們一點一滴的學習, 就是最大的回饋了!

 
 



How I Think about Teaching

Hello, my name is Brandi and I’m from United States of America.
Although I have been teaching for many years, I am continually amazed by how smart and dedicated children can be. The students at Edinburgh are no exception to this! Learning a second language is no easy task. I try to motivate and encourage students by making learning fun and exciting.
It is so rewarding to watch them learn and grow. My approach is to treat each child as an individual and adapt my teaching style to fit his or her needs. I truly enjoy teaching and helping students achieve success.

我是來自美國的Brandi老師!
教學多年,孩子們努力和專注的表現常常讓我感到驚豔,愛丁堡的學生們也不例外! 學習第二語言不是一件簡單的事,借由生動有趣的方式去鼓勵孩子們,看到他們的成長,就是做老師最好的回報。
每個孩子都不同,所以我隨時彈性調整教學方式,以符合學生個人的需求。我熱愛教學也樂意幫助他們通往成功之路。

 
 



教育理念

“It takes ten years to grow trees, but a hundred years to rear people.” It is a perfect description of education. The influence from a teacher can be long and profound so to be a good model of children is important.

As a teacher, I always remind myself what my passion is.
I expect my students are confident, enjoyable and curious to learn and to be thoughtful, helpful and friendly when they get along with people.

I will do my best to understand what my students need and find a suitable way to guide them. It is my ideal way of teaching.

「十年樹木,百年樹人」,是形容教育的最好寫照。教師所帶來的影響,可能是深遠的,所以做為孩子的典範,非常重要。
我時常提醒自己,身為老師的初衷和熱情的所在,期望孩子們有自信、享受並且充滿好奇心地去學習,與人相處時,學習體貼、友善和樂於助人。
了解學生的需求,找到最適切的方法來引導他們,這就是我認為的理想教育方法。

 
 



教育理念

I hope children can learn English through interesting classes. Every child is unique, so I try to teach children by knowing them and getting close to them. As children grow older, they also need to know putting effort into studying English is important.
As a mother and a teacher, I truly believe the quote by Jacques Barzun.
“In teaching you cannot see the fruit of a day's work. It is invisible and remains so, maybe for twenty years.” Every day I remind myself how important my job is.

  希望給孩子們歡樂的課程來啟蒙孩子,讓孩子對這第二語言產生興趣。了解孩子、親近孩子,並且了解每個孩子的獨特性來引導學習。隨著孩子的成長,慢慢帶領孩子了解學習並非只有遊戲,還是得努力付出才會有更大的收獲,因此我相信適度的壓力仍為必需。此外,老師本身仍需不斷的進修研習,希望能給孩子更多更新的學習法。

 
 



教育理念

Teaching is a lifelong learning. Process of learning about new philosophies and new strategies, learning from parents and community, learning from colleagues and especially learning from children.I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically and socially. My goal is to educate the child in light of their individual and developmental needs, so they cannot only be a life long learner, but also make a positive contribution to society.

教育是從生活教育開始教,更需老師以身作則。
1、重視學生的人格及道德教育:教育除了知識的傳授、專業技能的培養外,更重要的是學生人格及道德。
2、不放棄任何一個學生:儘可能的照顧到每一個學生,依學生的特質及專長,協助學生適性發展。
3、培養學生自學能力:「給學生魚吃,不如教他如何釣魚。」除了傳授專業知識外,更應培養學生的自學能力,使學生能在高度競爭的時代不被淘汰。
  有快樂的老師,才有快樂的學生,有快樂的學生才有充滿笑聲的教室,為學生開闢一條健康快樂的學習之路是我最大的心願!
